Nahata Jogendra Nath Mondal Smriti Mahavidyalaya is a Co-educational Institution at Nahata in the district of North 24 Parganas,West Bengal.The history of this college is a progress of backward caste in the border region.To realize the goal of extending higher education in rural Bengal by the West Bengal Government and to fulfill the earnest desire of the local populace, Nahata Jogendra Nath Mondal Smriti Mahavidyalaya was established on 1st July 1985.

The Department of Commerce was affiliated in October 1986 to the University of Calcutta  vide Letter No. 1772 EDN (CS), dated 20/10/1986.Currently,there are 3 full-time professors and  2 SACT-II teachers to facilitate proper academic delibaration.

The Department offers students with a comprehensive educational experience that includes engaging course content,exceptional mentoring and guidance from a team of dedicated educators who uphold the highest standards of academic excellence, as well as a wide range of educational exposures.Manoroanjan Sinha and Sikha Sarkar are the first male and female students to complete their graduate programmes under this department.

From the academic session 2008-09, all the 59 colleges in the district of North 24 Parganas, which were formerly affiliated with the University of Calcutta, are affiliated to West Bengal State University, Barasat which was introduced through the West Bengal  Legislative Assembly Act XXVIII, 2007. And then from the academic session 2008-09, the Department of Commerce of Nahata JNMS Mahavidyalaya is affiliated to the West Bengal State University,Barasat.

The syllabus and pattern of examination in the Commerce Department had been updating over time. As per the direction of the West Bengal State University, CHOICE BASED CREDIT SYSTEM (CBCS) wias  introduced in the Commerce Department from the academic session 2018-19.

In respose to the students' demand,the Department had organized seminars, workshops and academic excursion to industry on various occassions. Students belonging to SCs/STs/Minorities have been receiving scholarships from Govt. as per norms. The  college's poor fund and students' fund both provide financial aid and concessions to the underpriviledged  students.

The College's Central Library is well stocked with numerous books on different subjects in Commerce.Students  get access to online Journals in their subjects through JSTOR. Statistical database viz., STATA is also available  for the benefits of the students. Aditionally,there is a  reading room which  students can use it as needed.

In recent past, the numbers of students in the Commerce stream have been decreasing gradually,particularly in rural areas in our State as well as our affiliated University.Our college is not an exception.

However, the Department is making every effort,nonetheless,to deliver  consistent and positive results.
